If Friends were Flowers....

..I'd probably be allergic to them.  No joke. I'm allergic to almost all the foliage that nature has to offer. Flowers have the double whammy of both pollen and stinky smell, so flowers are not a good gift for me.  Unless they are the super cool ones like the Ya-Ya Gals from work gave me.  They were daisies dyed in unnatural neon colors.  Those things were so freak of nature manmade that all odor and pollen had been removed from them, and they didn't droop the next day (or even the next week).

That brings me to next bit, which is that widely used saying "If friends were flowers, I'd pick you!"  Something about that greeting used to grate on my nerves.  I didn't know what it was about it untl one day the hubby was looking at a stamp with that saying on it.

"If friends were flowers, I'd pick you?!  That's a horrible saying. I mean, don't flowers whither and die after you pick them? Ooh! Look! I picked you as my friend and now you're going to whither and die!  Yeah, there's a friendly saying for you."

Needless to say, I don't use that stamp anymore. But if you do receive a card from me with that saying, you'll know what your future has in store for you.

That brings us what friends and flowers saying that would be usable.  How about:  If friends were flowers, I'd be your sunshine.  (A bit of codependency, there).

If friends were flowers, I'd leave you on my grandmother's grave. (???)

If friends were flowers, I'd dump a load of crap on you every season because I hear fertilizer is all the rage!  (Wait, I've been that friend.)

If friends were flowers, I'd dump water on you once a week.

If friends were flowers, I'd let you grow right where you are even if it was a crack in the sidewalk.

Yeah, okay Whatever. Friends aren't flowers, we might as well face it.  Friends are more like an old pair of favorite shoes--comfy, well-loved, and sometimes they stink.  See, isn't that a much better saying!
