One is a Lonely Number

One is very lonely number when it comes to layers if you ask me.  However, that's what they are asking us to do this week at the Merry Monday Challenge Blog. So after much angst, debate, and internal dialog I came up with this one layer card.

And ain't half bad if I do say so myself. I think it is that interesting knot that makes it, otherwise it is kind of ho hum.  I used frosted lace glitter glue on it so the snowflakes are all frosty looking.

Whew! I fussed over that card all week. Okay, really most of that was trying to figure out where in the heck I put the Christmas embossing folders (and you know what? I don't actually remember where I found it). I'm glad that challenge is done and over with. Next week they will probably have us do heat embossing or brayering or something equally horrifying.

A Peaceful Challenge: OLW-73

One Layer Wednesday #73, which is an odd number for those of you not at peace with that, is to make a card that says peace in some way...  someting relaxing, tranquil, harmonious.  The card has to be one-layer and we are to keep embellishments to a minimum.

You can check out the one-layer challenge HERE and see all the cards. I was struck by Susan's card because it did not involve The Holiday That Shall Not Be Named, which to me is not peaceful at all, but may be where many other's thoughts go for this challenge.

A holiday card did not come to my mind for this challenge.  This card did:

To me, there is nothing more peaceful than a napping kitty all curled up.  Well, okay maybe getting a massage by one of those Chinese foot reflexology guys is more relaxing, but I don't have a stamp of that!  I wasn't sure if I liked the delicate coloring of that first card.  It was a bit too subtle for me, so I tried again making the cat a slightly darker gray.

One Layer Challenge -OLW70

Okay, I'm doing it.  I am actually joining one of the One Layer challenges out there.  This one is One Layer Wednesday (yeah, so it isn't Wednesday, get over your bad self) off my favorite blog, Simplicity.  I admire the cards in her blog all the time, but they are so not me.  And ONE LAYER?!  NO patterned paper???!  I get twitchy just thinking of it!  No multiple layers?!?!  I must be mad.

The challenge for OLW70 was to use either red and cream or red and white on a one-layer card.  Here is my entry in cream and red:

It feels naked to me, even though I faked a layer by having one stripe look like it is underneath another.  There was extensive use of the positioning tool for this card. Please comment and tell me what you think of my venture into the land of one-layer.

Since I'm sure I'll be asked, the stripes are created using an old Stampin Up set I bought used.  There are four different stamps, three of which are used on this card.  I like this set more than some of the other stripe and/or ribbon sets I've seen out there because the images are over 5-1/2" long so you can stamp across the front of an A2 card in one shot, no need to line up a repeat image.
