Just Desserts

Have you ever stopped to think that this paper crafting hobby is really stupid?  No, I'm serious here.  Have you ever found yourself thinking, "This is a really pointless hobby?"  No?

Well, maybe I should shut up then.  But sometimes I do find myself thinking this stuff.  Like Now.  You know, pretty much my whole non-working life revolves around it and sometimes I think I should be doing something more...  what?  Meaningful?  I should cure cancer or something?   I dunno.

This is not the same feeling as having no crafty mojo, but the result is the same.  Nothing is gonna get made until it has passed.
So meanwhile I might as well sit back and have a dessert or two.  Or six.  Now there's a hobby I should check out: competitive dessert eating.  I'm sure it exists!

The Fine Print: Stamps by Stampin' Up, papers and eyelets (eyelets?! yes, for real) from my stash.  I see I got that greeting rather wonky. I don't mean crooked, that was intentional, I mean so far away from the edge of the paper, not placed well.  By the way, I think you have to be a scientist or go to medical school or something like that to cure cancer, so maybe I shouldn't fret that I'm not working on it.

If there weren't already a Dhali Lama, then I might put your name forward for it. Hugs xx

As you know, I have recently backed down a bit. It has given me time to think about this whole thing. Where do I fit and do I fit. The answer...Yes. Not in an all consuming (A JOB) way but yes.

This post helps me see once again that if it is fun then it is a good thing. If it is becoming stressful, back off some and take another look. You have the ability to go from the beautiful to the absolute whimsical and even a little crazy. This is one of those places I love to stop by. I don't know what I will find. Thanks!!! I needed that!!!

Oh Judy, I know exactly what you mean and how you're feeling!! And I mean EXACTLY too! Sometimes you just feel that there has to be more to life!
However, as long as you can crank out cute cards like this, try not to worry about it too much because you bring joy to so many people! Love your card.

Hi Princess Judy,

I think that's why I mix up my hobbies. I like knitting the most and maybe card making the least. I do have quite a bit of card making supplies though...... I've really enjoyed taking photos and am planning to make those into cards.

As for your Desserts card, I think it's perfect. Don't see what you are talking about!

Thanks for visiting. Yep, NM is very unpredictable.

Hugs,
Kay

Making people happy by receiving cards made with care may not be a cure for cancer, but it sure can uplift and attitude! They make me happy when I read your blog too! I love the sentiment on this card and the way it is wonky! Much more fun that way! And if you make sure your paper is good and dry, StazOn will work OK.

nope, never felt that way. figure i make people smile when they get something in their mail boxes besides junk mail. Like this card, who wouldn't smile when they opened it and then go eat a pile of chocolate cuz you enabled them!! What could be better than that? Off to get a piece of Dove!! Thank you very much.

Feeling EXACTLY!! like that at this very moment......is it all worth it??
Mind you if someone you send a card to is "happy" maybe we should just keep making them ......!!!
I love your card and never thought of what your sentiment says ..... love it. Off to get myself a few "desserts" to drool over
Hugs

Oh I know what you mean Judy! I used to read far more than I do now and have even found myself passing something else up so I can stay home and craft. Your post has made me think I need to be a bit more relaxed about it all.
Love your fun card though!!!

Now that's a funny image and card! I'll join you in the dessert-eating competition with my big sweet tooth :)
I often wonder what led me to this hobby, but since I began donating to OWH and cards for hospitalized kids, I have to think that somewhere, someone is smiling when they open a card I made and find written words from someone who cares. Since I'm retired, I enjoy the time I have to contribute to cardmaking, so I'll continue doing what I do. On the other hand, I often think I could be driving a new car if I didn't have this hobby though! LOL

Oh, I hear you on your thoughts of this hobby. I do find it addicting, and try to get some cards sent out to recipients, trying to make it less pointless. But, your card--so yummy.

The card is darling. I've never thought of this hobby as pointless, but I'm pretty sure my husband has on more than one occasion! lol

I do know what you mean Judy... I have those moments (and I'm sure hubby thinks it all the same, except when he actually needs a card...)

LOVE the sentiment on this card, just fabulous :o) Hugs, Lisa x

Have you ever thought of taking up quilting? Haa Haa!

Yup... well, not that it's pointless, as the journey and the learning and all of that - as far as I can see - is the point of why we're here. As long as I'm learning/playing/growing then I think I'm doing it right... But I do sometimes wonder where the heck it all came from and where the heck it's all leading. But then I remember the joy I find in the moment of creation, in the now of just letting it flow... and I think, well, that's the point.

Sorry didn't mean to get profound. Off for some dessert...

Not a waste of time at all, Judy - you give a lot of people a lot of pleasure by your wacky and zany creativity and fun posts!! The people who get Nobel prizes for curing cancer and stuff like that are vastly outnumbered by us little people who do their best to make the world a better and happier place by radiating fun and happiness! Together we are a mighty force for good!!!

Thanks for your visit and your nice comment. Perhaps I am making the world a better place by rescuing old teabags and making art out of them lol!! I'm having a lot of fun doing it, I know that for sure. I keep getting more and more ideas of how to use them!

Can't wait to get my sewing machine back. It's an excellent mechanical workhorse that has served me well over many years. They certainly don't make them like they used to! I think it was paying me back for neglecting it for so long. Now it's got its own corner in my new ARTHaven and can be out all the time, it should get more use.

Have a great week. You ARE making a difference hunnybuns!

Yep! I do think about that....a lot! So why do I continue? I dunno either, but it does keep my hands and my brain busy. If I don't do this I will definitely become a couch potato (YUCK)

So when this happens I usually take a big break and go outside and work in the flower beds, of course I COULD clean house......naaa, rather craft and stamp!!! LOL So long story short, it keeps me from cleaning house and working in the flower beds.........

Oh, dear, too many deep thoughts can cause personal injury! I read that on a bumper sticker somewhere! I think you are doing something meaningful in your day job, so just belax and enjoy your card making. That's why it's called a hobby. It's not meant to be anything other than a happy place for you to go to and enjoy.

Now, secondarily, with the invention of blogs, the rest of us get to enjoy what you make. That makes us happy. So there, you ARE doing something meaningful, after all. You are bringing smiles and happiness into the lives of your readers. Put that in your heart while your competing in your dessert-eating comps!!

Oh, and BTW, love your card!! Big hugs, Darnell

As usual, enjoyed this post PLUS enjoyed reading some fab comments too. I think we all agree...when it's fun, do it. When it becomes stressful or like a 'j.o.b.', time to back off a bit. Did that myself just recently. Enjoying the freedom to do a card when mood strikes - or not. Your words made me smile (and I agree with Bonnie too, if a card makes the recipient smile or feel good, then you've accomplished the purpose of this whole thing). In the meantime, know that we enjoy what you post, what you write, and totally agree with the dessert philosophy. AND your sentiment looked fine to me, but then I get stuff glued down wonky, so what do I know???Take care. Love the fine print! LOL TFS & Hugs

It is NOT pointless! (Are you singing "Me and My Arrow" now like I am?) I love getting hand-made cards, and I even send them sometimes. It makes people HAPPY!

Also, I sell my cards, and people like looking through them, and sometimes buy them. #BONUS

I used to feel that pointless feeling until I started donating them to Operation Write Home. Now my paper crafting has a happy purpose. If you find anything out about the competitive dessert eating, let me know!

Well I'm half like that lol...I LOve to do the colouring of an image..But, then sometimes, just sometimes I think do I have to make it into a card? It's a more intense Winder hobby, cause once the Sun comes out I LOve to be outdoors.. Then I fit it in when I can! Now I LOve your cake display? But, would rather have a drink..Cheers!!
