Workdesk Wedneday #142--My Big Dirty "Secret"

Last night I kept pestering the cat to go make a card for me and take some pictures of my desk.  The cat, in true cat form, didn't even twitch an ear.  My husband though, must have gotten tired of hearing me as he went and photographed the desk:

He did not, however, make me a card.  What he did do though, is after I told him that I had done something to the camera to make the photos really HUGE file size-wise, is sit around and fiddle with the camera to figure out how to make the pictures normal sized again.  In the process he snapped this photo, which really shows my true crafting colors:
That, my friends, is my living room.  The lower right hand corner shows a cart with a basket of ribbon on it.  My desk is right next to that.  If I were sitting at my desk I would be facing you, the picture taker.  If you, the picture taker kept stepping to your right alongside the back of my desk you would reach our front door.  Yep, when you come into my house, this is what you see.  I always tell people, "If the mess bothers you, feel free to pick it up."  I've had no takers.  It is extra disastrous with stuff heaped on that gold chair, the table, my stool, and the little cart next to it.  Those don't usually exist, or if they show up I pick them up fairly soon after.  But not only have I had no crafting mojo, I have no cleaning mojo.  I just found out I have a sinus infection, so that might explain my lack of will to live.

Anyway....the heaps on the fireplace hearth.... they've been there for a long time (great insulation, btw).  To the left of fireplace you see a stack of plastic containers filled with paper.  That is my mythical 8-foot stack of paper.  Truly, it is only 4-feet there, but I can pile up a second one with ease.  To the left of the 8-foot stack is the hamster cage on a table with magazines and Club Scrap boxes underneath.  You can see my rolly traveling craft cart, next to that a cat tent that they often fight over.  The gold chair has 2 Club Scrap boxes (one empty), a bag of goodies from Joann's, and a box with my Valentine's presents.  The table has my Cuttlebug, newer Big Shot, the paper cutter, and an assortment of papers, stamps, and assorting crafting crud.  The bookshelf behind it is filled with books with crafting stuff in front of it.  You can see stacks of punches, big lever punches, jars of paper flowers, a basket of more paper flowers and random stuff, and a box of envelopes.  The next bookshelf over is filled with Iris 3-drawer bins.  All the upper bins have stamps, one of the lower bins also has 12x12 paper.  At one point in my life, I would rotate my frequently used stamps into these bins.  I have a closet with the tall Iris carts in them full of stamps too, and the not so frequently used stamps were in there.  I don't bother with that anymore.  Between that black bookshelf and the smaller cart (with the red piece of paper on top) is a pile of Club Scrap boxes filled with craft stuff and several plastic snap together bins of embellishments.  Never fear, there is enough room to walk there and to scoop the 2 covered cat litter boxes in the corner (you can see one in the photo, the other one is right next to it).  That wall you see is 23-feet long, so you can get a feel for the size of the room (23x20).  The ceiling is 10-feet high, hence the heater as one of the walls is almost all windows.  Our house stays chilled which is awesome in the summer when it is 100+ degrees, not so happy in the winter.

So that is my dirty little secret, which never really was a secret, but I just never thought to show it off in all its glory before.  My mom says it is a sign of an illness.

Here is the card I made because the cat refused to.  It could almost qualify for a snippets card because it was made mostly from things I had lying around.

The Fine Print: Stamp by DeNami Design, papers by unknown (by not DCWV), border punch by Stampin' Up, florish die cut by Quick Cuts.

my dear Princess Judy,

Oh, I love what you've done to your living room! ;-) you certainly have lots to choose from when you are crafting. mine is hidden away (mostly) in two closets but i do have things out on my shelves - some books but other things mixed in there.

yes, i agree about the word verification. i'm glad that Di told me about turning it off. am glad i did and wish more would also.

the yard faces north so the snow will be there until April/May... bummer, especially when picking up after two doggies!

hugs,
kay

And, why didn't you link your card into the playground - it's a brilliant snippets card! Go on, I dare you :) We have pogo sticks now!!

Hi there Princess Judy!
For someone with no will to live you've sure got a lot to say, hehe! And such a lot of stuff! Which probably equates to how much stuff I have, but not all in one place, it's spread all through the house ... except for the living room. My husband says "Can't we PLEASE keep ONE room tidy????" Umm, well we try.
And, I'm so pleased that someone understands about the books and the need to buy one that you couldn't possibly have any interest in other than "altering"! Although I am reading a bit here and there as I tear the pages out which confirms my original suspicions that this book deserves to be taken apart.
Love those fur people wearing their jewels!

I can't get over the amount of stuff you have, I keep going back to the picture. You could spend years creating in that space and never have to emerge to buy more. All I can say is FANTASTIC, I'm ver impressed.
Have a great week.

Well, you have your priorities right, that's for sure. Thanks goodness for understanding husbands! I have a craft room upstairs, and now have also taken over the diningroom, stacks of stamps everywhere (also have a huge loom in the spare bedroom, from my weaving days). Yep, that's just the way it goes....thanks for giving me a laugh today, and for stopping by my blog. Barb #100

My long lost sister is a Princess! I knew I had royalty in my blood!!! Those dots for the Ciao markers are delightful btw. Love your space, the husband would be most unhappy with me if I converted the living room into my 'space'! Oh and I don't have curtains in 90% of the windows in my house, I live in the woods and if the critters like peeking more power to them!

Princess Judy
(I just love typing that!)

You asked about my She Art canvases. I'm hoping to get some decent photos taken and sell them on etsy. I've had an etsy account for years but have never sold anything.

I also sell at a local craft's fair in November so will sell them there too. Keep your fingers crossed for me!!

Hugs,
Kay

LOL! What a work space! I have an 8' x 10' room (in our last home it was over 14' x 20'). I'm so crowded. Today (Thursday) I posted my "Clean Work Desk Thursday". I found things lost since August!

Hi, what a great desk and craft room, it is filled to the gunnels with what looks like fantastic stash. I laughed when I saw the empty cat bed and them huddled round heater, it must be a little chilly. Your card that the cats did not make is super and I hope your sinus gets better soon, you will have such a headache with it. Have a great day

LOL! That's about the only 'cleaning' offer I get--I'll come take it away for you. The stamping stuff is part of hubby's master plan in case I die. He plans to bribe a new wife with, "Look at all this stamping stuff I have to offer!"

Keep the bathroom tidy and have that as your one room. Hubby has his own room and always says I get the rest of the house... I'm lucky!

Sorry it's taken me a while to visit - seem to have been in a timewarp this week! I really chuckled reading this - we have have the same secret - we just haven't been as brave as you! Maybe we should start a 'How big is your secret' blog hop.... but then I guess we'd all start ruining the myth that we have tidy desks!!!! Thank you for sharing this week - I loved it!

Judy, your Mum is seeing the world very differently from me...one of us has a craft coloured lens...I see your fabulous lounge space and the very controlled collection you have. Oh em gee it's fab!! I must try that camera trick with my DH...might distract him from wanting to watch football one evening!!

Oh, my goodness, Princess (never typed THAT before), you are one lucky girl for sure. Thanks for stopping by my place and leaving a comment so I could return to visit you. (I haven't managed to see all the linkies yet on WOYWW.) I enjoyed your post and I've read all the comments and ... well ... okay, I'll just have to be the first person who says your style completely gives me hives!! Completely (my playhouse pictures don't lie) and so now you know MY dirty little secret: I can't work if there is too much stuff at my elbows and out of the corner of my eye. But you know what, who cares? I love that we all respect each other's different styles, talents, and spaces! However, I am jealous that my name is not Princess. You rule there.

Oh dear Judy, that really is a sight for sore eyes!

I count myself very lucky to have a room that is dedicated to crafting, so I can just come out and shut the door behind me and no one every knows (except you lot on a Wednesday) the mess it’s in. My lounge usually has the remnants of an evening’s stitching laying around though. Bits of thread all over the floor and material and bobbins all across the sofa.

Thanks for stopping by this week.

Happy Crafting!
