Robots, For the Good of Mankind

Hewwo. My name is Poppy and I'll be your guest columnist today.  My Mommy and Papa are always making new rules.  All the time new rules. This new rule doesn't really affect me but I definitewy think they need to reconsider it. It has implications.

Apparentlys, robots call my mom and papa all the time and say, "I. Am. A. Robot. I Am. Cool. Vote. For. Me."  Then my mommy and papa hang up the phone and laugh and say they won't vote for that robot. It is the new rule-not to vote for the robots who call.  I fink they should vote for robots.  You know how robots are. One day they will all go hay-wires and go beserks and start eating people.  There they will be, wif a robot just about to eat them.  But if they voted, they could all be, "Dude! Don't eat me! I totally voted for you."  And the robot would all be, "My. Bad." and tell all his robot friends that moma and papa voted for him so don't eat them.
Plus what if all the robots go away becuase no one votes for them?  Then one day there they will be in the middle of the zombie apocalypse and they'll want to check the mail. Then they'll wish they had a robot to check the mails for them!  See, totally, they need to run these new rules by me first.
Pee Ess-I'm modeling the new purse charm that Wunch Wady Jan made for my momma. It totally makes me wook sexy, doesn't it? Momma won't let me wear it all the time, just for modeling.

The Fine Print: I'm not old enough to vote but I would totally vote for a robot, 'specially if he promised crunchies in every dish!  I hear some peoples have robots who baccuum the house. See, robots are good.  Robot stamp by A Muse Studio, slate cardstock and slate chevron paper by A Muse Studio, riveted metal background by Tim Holtz/Sizzix, word bubble punch by Marvy, screw headed brad by I dunno, but ain't it cool.  Elephant and donky stamps retired by A Muse Studio, star papers by We Are Memory Keepers, banner die by A Muse Studio, sticker letters by Making Memories.

A Day.

Today was a day, not a good day and not a bad day.  It was just a day.  Have you ever seen the "smiley face" with the straight line smile and the greeting "Have a day."  Yeah, that was today.

First, time to make some one's day a good day.  It is time to pick the winner for the ribbon and washi tape I was giving away in my embellishments post.  The winner is...... May from May's Happy Daze.  Woo hoo!  May says she like ribbons and flowers the best for embellishments, romantic candlelight dinners, long walks in the rain, and she's a Pisces.  Wait, I could maybe be making some of that up.

What else I made up today are cards 'n things. I went to a Stampin' Up Open House where the focus was the SU holiday mini catalog and of course is chock full of things everyone must have.  Here's a mini treat bag, with a mummy tag, and dark chocolate M&Ms. I love the one little gogglie eyeball peeking out!
Here is a 3x3 mini card with matching envelope I made as well.  There is harvest themed stamp set with matching dies to cut the parts out with.  I must say I was rather impressed with this and ordered a set and the coordinating paper.
Previously I had bought myself one of those flip flop card making dies from Sizzix.  I didn't have proper crease pad to get the die to work right so I had to order one before I could use it.  It came last night!  The card is flat and you pull the two edges away from each other to open it and a section in the middle twists (flip flops) around.  Maybe describing things isn't the best thing so how about some pictures?
The card closed
The 'flip flop' part in action
The card fully open
The Fine Print: Nope, not getting any kick backs from the Stampin' Up lady for showing off her wares.  Mummy candy bag parts and stamps from the Ghoulish Googlies bundle. Pear mini card stamps and dies from the Perfectly Preserved bundles, papers from the Orchard Harvest Designer Series (such fancy names) all by Stampin' Up.  School flip flop card stamps by a combination of A Muse Studio (cling) and A Muse Artstamps (a retired clear set), papers by DCWV, border by a|s as well, round dies by Spellbinders.

School is Cool

School is cool.
Unless you work there.
And it's a college.
Where the students are adults.
But they don't act like it.
Then it gets a bit tedious.
And yes, here in Tucson school starts in August.  Can you guess the date my school starts?  Yep, that would be August 22.  Even though the schools here, including the college and university, start in August, there will be an influx of people showing up after Labor Day interesting in starting school.

Actually I like my job. I like the routine of it but that it isn't always routine. It changes depending where in the semester we are. I guess that makes it a cyclical routine.  I like to help people, but I admit to bias. I like to help people who want to help themselves. If you call or show up expecting us to do it for you, hold your hand, wipe your nose, give you a pen, and pass you in your class even though you never show up for it, well, let's just say I'm not so sympathetic.

Hubby has a theory about why the younger students (we have lots of honest-to-god adults attending our school, the average age of our student body is 29) are such pills. He blames today's parenting.  He says many folks treat their offspring like pets--they teach them stay off the furniture and not to piddle on the floor and that is where it ends.  Manners, respect, responsibility, common courtesy, common sense... nope, they don't bother with those at all. And it shows.  Just because you are your mommy's favorite pet doesn't entitle you to anything in the real world.  You might as well learn it now.

The Fine Print: The parenting theory doesn't apply to all parents. We still get some good kids whose hands I want to shake and take them around and introduce them to all the staff, "Look! We got a winner here!"  Our school has gone to a lot self-service, self admissions, self registration, open assessment times, etc. so we tend to get the never-been-to-college crowd or the ones who can't/won't do it for themselves.  Stamps by a combination of A Muse Artstamps and A Muse Studio.  And yes, school is cool.

Who Let the Dogs Out?

For the lack of a better idea, I stuck to making dog cards last night.  I know my posts have been light on words lately so I've been pondering a good story to go with my cards.  Alas, I have no good dog stories.  I don't even have a bad dog story.
I truly am not a dog person. My older brother had a dog while we were growing. I guess I should say while I was growing up; my older brother being 10 years older than me. I don't remember much about the dog except that sometimes it would sneak upstairs and eat the cat food.  Then my dad would yell, "G-D worthless mutt!"  See, not a good bad dog story.  And yes, dad often said "gee dee" as opposed to the word it represented; but never fear, he used that too on occasion.
I once told a dog-loving friend that I hated dogs because it seems like everyone I knew had a G-D worthless mutt tiny dog that would jump all over you while yapping and panting and possibly trying to bite your face off, all while their owners either ignored it or ineffectively tried to control their dog.  My friend pointed out that I didn't hate dogs; I hated dog owners who couldn't be bothered to train their dogs. Hmmm... true enough.  Anyway, I once dated a guy (good ol' FF from a previous post) who called small yappy dogs "puntables."  That seemed kind of appropriate because over the course of time I learned that a couple of knees to the face and those tiny jumping dogs usually backed off.  Yeah, see, not a particularly good dog story either, you know, if you like dogs.

The Fine Print: I think the tiny jumping dog syndrome was before crate training became a thing and dogs started to live in giant hamster cages.  Anyway, the worst offender of the bunch had her owner trained to put her pantyhose on in the car before heading out to work because it wouldn't not jump on her like a banshee.I say if you risk exposing your nether region and/or granny panties to the neighbors, maybe you should train your dog a little bit.  Wiener dog stamp by Printworks and cute dog stamp by All Night Media.

WOYWW 165

First off, let's wish Happy Birthday to these August 1st babies: Jerry Garcia (RIP, man), Yves Saint Laurent, Claudius that Roman Emperor Dude, and last but definitely not least Lunch Lady Jan. Woot!

Yeah, those words are probably the most substance you are getting out of me today.  Here's my desk for part of the biggest crafty snoop around the globe, courtesy of Julia. I went for a wide shot today so you could see more of the debauchery.  My desk chair usually occupies the big blank space there.
Here is the area behind my desk jumbled full of lovely things. Can you spot the cat?
Here's a card I made. People are going to start thinking that I am a dog person if this keeps up.  I decided I wanted a girly chihuahua since last week I made a macho chihuahua but I forgot to take a picture of him, you'll just have to trust me on it.
The Fine Print: Chihuahua by Inkadinkado (clear stamp), greeting by A Muse Artstamps, ribbon from A Muse Studio, paper from July 2012 Quick Cards magazine. The cat is under the table next to the Club Scrap boxes.

Dog Day Afternoon

I don't actually know what that means--dog day afternoon--but I envision is as laying around in the sun, being lazy and possibly licking oneself.  Never mind, scratch that last part.  Anyway, here are some dog cards for you to check out.
The Fine Print: Top dog by Stamps by Judith, sympathy dog by Copper Leaf Creations.  Remember if you run with the dogs, don't be surprised if you get fleas.

When in doubt....

.....copy yourself

Card I made awhile ago.
Card I made recently.

The Fine Print: They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but when you imitate yourself I suspect it is proof of a psychosis more than anything else (and now my day is complete, I've been trying to work 'psychosis' into a sentence all day).  Papers by DCWV, butterfly border punch by Martha 'evil bitch' Stewart, single butterfly punch by EK Success, top flower stamps from the dollar bin, bottom flower stamps by Stampendous, 'explore' stamp by EK Success, 'smile' stamp by A Muse Studio.
